The Ultimate Guide to Effectively Eliminate Damp Smell in Your Car

Having a damp smell in your car can be unpleasant and frustrating. Whether it's due to wet weather, spills, or moisture buildup, tackling the issue promptly is essential. In this guide we'll provide you with step-by-step instructions to effectively eliminate the damp smell and restore a fresh and inviting atmosphere to your vehicle.

Step 1: Remove Moisture Sources

Start by identifying and removing any sources of moisture in your car:
Check for leaks: Inspect the windows, sunroof, doors, and trunk for any signs of water leaks. Repair or seal them to prevent further moisture from entering.
Remove wet items: Take out any wet or damp items such as wet floor mats, towels, or clothing from the car. Thoroughly dry them outside the vehicle.

Step 2: Deep Clean Your Interior

A thorough cleaning is essential to eliminate the damp smell:

Vacuum the vehicle: Use a powerful vacuum cleaner with upholstery attachments to remove dirt, debris, and loose particles from the seats, carpets, and floor mats.

Use a good quality Interior Cleaner: Use AirVidox Interior Cleaner to clean your vehicle thoroughly, focusing on the area where the leak occurred and making sure to not over wet the surfaces. Leave you car to dry thoroughly.

Step 3: Eliminate lingering Odours using Airvidox Odour Eliminator

Now that you've addressed the moisture issue and cleaned your car, it's time to focus on removing the lingering damp smell:

Activating AirVidox: Add powder from container labelled ‘Part A’ to larger jar labelled ‘Part B’. Add 60ml of cold water to powder mixture. Close lid of container tightly and shake for 30 seconds.

A dark yellow gel will form, indicating that AirVidox is activated. Open the lid of the jar and place it on the piece of cardboard in the car to prevent any spillage risk. Close all the doors and leave the jar in the car overnight for 8 hours.

After 8 hours, recirculate the gas through the ventilation system for a further 30 minutes. Making sure to avoid breathing in the gas. Once complete, open the doors of your vehicle and leave the gas to dissipate before removing the AirVidox jar.

Remove the AirVidox jar and leave the vehicle to air out for a further 30 minutes. The car will have a slight post treatment smell which will dissipate within a couple of days, after that it should smell neutral and odour free.

Step 5: Maintenance and Prevention

Regularly check your vehicle for leaks: Common areas prone to leaks are door seals, windows, sunroof seals, and trunk seals. Noticeable signs of a leak include wet carpeting and musty smells coming from specific areas. Address any leaks promptly to prevent further moisture build-up.

Keep the interior clean: Regularly clean the interior of your vehicle to remove any dirt, debris, and moisture that can contribute to a damp smell. Vacuum the carpets and seats, wipe down surfaces, and clean any spills promptly.

Avoid leaving wet items inside: Remove wet or damp items like umbrellas, rain-soaked clothing, or towels from your vehicle. Leaving them inside can introduce moisture and contribute to the damp smell. Dry them thoroughly before placing them back in the vehicle.

Service your air conditioning system regularly: The AC system not only heats and cools the air, but also helps remove excess moisture from the cabin. A well-maintained system will contribute to a drier interior.

Ventilate your vehicle regularly: Proper ventilation is crucial in preventing dampness. Open the windows or use the air conditioning system to circulate air inside the vehicle. If your vehicle has a sunroof, occasionally open it to allow fresh air to enter and circulate.
